Interview From Ogaming
So much for Half-Life 2; the way Webzen sees things, its upcoming massively multiplayer sci-fi shooter Huxley (PC/Xbox 360) won't just hit the bullseye with FPS fans, but will also blow the doors off the entire genre. Fusing in-depth character development and a persistent state online world with the same twitch-based, rocket-jumping action armchair gunmen know and love, this gorgeous post-apocalyptic MMO promises frag-happy excitement for all. Blessed with furious first-person gunfights, a complex series of systems that support social interaction and high-tech special effects powered by the Unreal 3 engine, signs point to a potentially successful launch. If nothing else, we're certainly confident that features like co-op missions, strategically-minded PvP duels and RPG-style upgrades that let you access new weapons, vehicles and skills will go over big with the BFG-loving crowd. In another OGaming exclusive, producer Kijong Kang takes time to explain the thinking behind the game, why it dares to be different, and precisely how you'll be able to hand friends' asses to them: OGaming: Why go the whole first-person shooter route? What makes you feel there's room for a game like this in the MMO market? Kijong Kang: A lot of us on the development team have experience in the FPS arena, having worked on franchises such as the Unreal series and titles like Nitro Family. With Huxley, we are looking to upgrade the FPS genre and take it to the next level. We?ve researched and analyzed strong and weak points of previous games and have been focusing on making an evolved and improved FPS game. As you know, the FPS genre has a huge fan base and some of the fans are pretty hardcore. Players who enjoy MMORPGs are getting bored with the same old thing and are expecting to see some new game experiences. This is why we decided to develop an MMOFPS? we feel the timing is right. Our team is highly motivated and passionate about the FPS genre and we?re working to make Huxley an innovative and creative game for FPS fans that are ready to step up their game to the MMO world. OGaming: This game's supposed to be all about speed. How do you make sure it's always fast-paced, yet not make the action too overwhelming? Kijong Kang: Huxley features character development elements that affect overall gameplay. Characters will evolve in various ways with different strengths and weaknesses, depending on players? choices. Also, there will be times when players will have to cooperate with one another to win in combat. Combat between individuals will be the familiar frenetic type found in twitch FPS games and players will benefit by cooperating with each other under certain situations. However, at the same time, we will still have a fun game that players can enjoy soloing as well. OGaming: The trick to building an awesome sci-fi shooter title versus fantasy or RPG game is?? Kijong Kang: Creating a sci-fi world that draws on reality. We are focusing on a ?near future? concept to make the Huxley world somewhat familiar and relatable to reality. Weapons and vehicles that show up in-game will have realistic mechanisms that could possibly exist in the real world. We are striving to immerse players into a game environment that feels familiar? almost like they are fighting on a real battleground. Of course, we will provide strong action along with dazzling special effects. This will bring in the sci-fi FPS element. We?re doing a lot to create a unique game that at the same time will feel familiar to FPS players. Compliments of Ogaming |
