Huxley Is Most Wanted Game At Gamespy
Here at GameSpy we're always hungry for new types of online experiences. And frankly, massively multiplayer games are a wide open field of unexplored possibilities. So when a game like Huxley is announced and accompanied by drool-inducing screenshots, we can't help but get excited. Huxley promises to be a massively multiplayer first-person shooter. Only one other game has tried it -- Sony Online's mediocre PlanetSide -- and the time is ripe for someone to knock this idea out of the park. Take a moment to admire the screenshots. Huxley uses the latest version of the Unreal Tournament engine to render intense, realistically shadowed environments at the kind of speeds that first-person games demand. Shattered urban wastelands rich in dirt and detail form the backdrop for epic player conflicts with big guns. The backstory has it that the Earth has been wasted by a catastrophic war, and now two branches of humanity -- the Sapiens and the Alternatives -- are fighting over the scraps that remain. You'll pick a side and then meet with other players in crowded city centers that act as home bases, where you can team up with people, purchase equipment, and browse missions. Once you've got your team together you can enter a mission area, where the bullets fly and only one team will walk away a winner. Huxley is obviously a game of skill, but it has roleplaying elements, in that your character can acquire better armor, better weapons, and cooler vehicles as you complete more missions and rack up more kills. Naturally your character is saved from session to session. As you advance up the chain of command, more and more higher-level locations will open up so you can fight against better-armed opponents. Unfortunately, unlike PlanetSide, Huxley won't have a big territorial meta-game, where players fight to control sections of a big map. It plays more like Guild Wars, where you team up with people to enter mission zones. Still, within this structure, plenty of interesting scenarios can come up. For instance, during the E3 demo of the game, the developers showed off one mission where the two player factions were fighting tooth and nail when suddenly a horde of computer-controlled monsters showed up. The two groups of players had the option of temporarily teaming up to take out the foes ... or they could have just kept shooting at each other. This type of game is rich in possibilities. We have no idea if Huxley will turn out to be a major event in 2006, or if it'll fall flat once the servers start filling up -- but the concept is so strong, we're dying to find out. Hope you found this cool to read :D |

Very impressive. I think it's interesting to see how so many people are so engrossed in this game yet so very little information has actually been put out about it. I honestly don't think any other game and done this, besides Halo 3 from that small teaser, but H3 has H2 and H1 backing it up.
